north of kirkham fields is a looming tower of flats the colour of cardboard. its gates are stained with bore water. no one knows when it was built or how it got here.
in summer we would sometimes jump the fence and use their pool, but it never felt relaxing. swimming on the budgets of a hundred rate-payers, we suffered too much from the panopticon effect.
